My Story
John young was born and raised in Knoxville Tennessee. At a young age he fell in love with music, first learning how to play gospel hymns on the piano from his Mamaw at age 4. Eventually at age 10 John picked up a guitar and has never put it down since! John grew up singing and playing in church in various praise and worship bands while also playing and singing at school. Winning various competitions through his teens like “battle of the bands” and “CTE idol” he kept his musical dreams alive while also performing in the schools plays and having a lead role as Captain Von Trapp in the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “The Sound of Music”.
Soon after graduating high school and a quick semester of College John realized that he needed money so he started working as an orderly at the local hospital. Music was pushed to the wayside and forgotten about due to the 9-5 grind of an everyday job. While working at the Hospital though John “re-met” with a beautiful girl who he had went to high school with and soon they rekindled up a relationship and a few years later married. Still at the Hospital John saw on the news that Dollywood was holding auditions and he thought he’d give it a shot for old times sake. So in 2016 he tried out, got the job, and has sang and played guitar professionally ever since. John has (since)won various competitions like the “Knoxville Idol” tv competition and has been nominated multiple years in a row by Dollywood for the “IAPPA top male performer” award. After 3 years at Dollywood John decided to make a change and take a position at Country Tonite where he has spent the last 4 seasons. John gives all the Glory to God and feels so blessed to be able to make a living at music.
